CORE PHILOSOPHY

The coach discusses using defenders' discipline against them by creating false keys that cause linebackers and safeties to flow in the wrong direction. The focus is on getting fast players in space on the perimeter by manipulating how defenders read their assignments—specifically targeting linebackers who key on guards and safeties who lock onto tight ends or sniffer backs.

DEFENSIVE CHALLENGES ADDRESSED

Against odd fronts with disciplined linebackers reading guards and safeties keying specific players, offenses face seven to eight defenders near the box while blocking with only six or seven players. This creates the need for schemes that turn defensive discipline into a liability.

POWER BASH SCHEME

This play features quarterback power with a standard Power G blocking scheme against odd fronts. The playside tackle bases the end while the tight end leads up on the outside backer. The key is reading the backside defensive end—if he pinches inside (often slanting toward the tight end/sniffer), the quarterback keeps the ball on the perimeter with the left tackle arc releasing. The scheme causes the boundary inside linebacker and safety to key the tight end and pulling guard, taking themselves out of position. Film examples showed successful execution with 13 yards per carry over recent seasons.

COUNTER BASH (GH BASH)

Similar to Power Bash but adds the tight end as a puller along with the guard, creating enhanced window dressing. This gives defenders a "pull-pull-pull" read that influences them to flow toward the play side while the quarterback reads the backside end for a keep/give option. Film showed linebackers taking four to five false steps in the wrong direction, though the coach acknowledged that quarterback pre-snap decisions don't always match the read.

ADDITIONAL CONCEPTS MENTIONED

The coach references counter screens, reverses off counter and Power G using false keys, and sprint out throwback screens as a third-down staple when defenses match sprint out protection and rotate coverage.
