Air Squats
A classic strength exercise in the SST Big 100. As you approach your summer training cycle, the air squat is a great way to review technical squat depth for returning and new athletes to your program. A soft 14" diameter ball is a great way to teach appropriate squat depth. Make sure athlete is in a "landing base" with feet shoulder width, toes slightly wider than the heels. Arms out front as counterbalance and tactical eyes are the upper body coaching point.

Box Jump
One of the TEN plyometric drills in the SST Big 100. Although it is not a true plyometric drill (ammortization phase), it teaches proper "triple extension" force production.......a fundamental movement pattern in athletics. The box drill is a power clean without the bar ! Secondarily, it teaches the athlete to pull the heels to the butt while dorsiflexing the foot. This move is critical in teaching sprint mechanics down the road.....

Two up, one back
One of the TEN ladder drills in the SST Big 100. Another example of a non-linear drill in your "conditioning toolbox". Emphasize minimum ground contact on all ladder drills. If you are still using a portable ladder, get rid of it and paint the ladder into the floor ! Contact me at sstweightrooms@gmail.com if you need any assistance.

Lateral A-skips
One of the TEN speed drills in the SST Big 100. Gambetta and Odgers said "incorporate non-linear drills in your speed development program". The lateral A-skip is an example of the non-linear aspect: doing an A-skip sideways. The FIVE technical components of "focus, rotate, high foot, ball of the foot and upright" should taught in all speed development drills !

Snatch Balance
One of the TEN power exercises in the SST Big 100. The snatch balance is an excellent exercise in the developing lifter: the move trains the lifter to "get the body under the bar". Key coaching point: begin with PVC pipe...then cold rolled bar.....then 20 kg bar only. DO NOT teach the exercise with load to start !
